SCADA and HMI Integration: Connecting the Factory Floor to a Modern Dashboard
SCADA and HMI systems already hold the data a factory needs. Integration is about surfacing it usefully, not replacing systems that already work.
What SCADA and HMI already do well
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems are built to monitor and control industrial processes in real time, and most factories already depend on them for exactly that. The problem isn't that they don't work — it's that the data usually stays local to the plant floor, on-screen for an operator, without reaching a manager's phone or a company-wide dashboard.
What integration adds on top
Integration work typically pulls data out of the SCADA/HMI system through its existing communication interface and feeds it into a broader dashboard — combining it with energy data, maintenance schedules or multi-site comparisons that the SCADA system alone was never built to show. Alerts can also be routed out to phones and email, extending visibility beyond the control room.
Where to be careful
Any integration touching a live production system needs to be read-only where it isn't explicitly required to write commands, and tested in a way that can't disrupt the process it's connecting to. A responsible integration partner treats an operating factory floor with that caution by default, not as an afterthought.
