API Integration 101: Connecting Swiggy, Zomato or a PMS to Your Dashboard

Delivery platforms, hotel PMS and booking systems all hold data your business needs elsewhere. Here's how API integration actually pulls that in.

What an API integration actually does

Most modern platforms — delivery apps, hotel Property Management Systems, booking engines — offer an API (a defined way for other software to request and receive their data). An integration uses that API to pull relevant data (orders, bookings, occupancy) into your own dashboard automatically, instead of someone checking multiple apps and manually compiling numbers.

A concrete example: a restaurant with delivery and dine-in

A restaurant running Swiggy, Zomato and its own dine-in POS has three separate sources of order data by default. An API integration can bring all three into one operations dashboard, so a manager sees total order volume and revenue across all channels in one place, rather than logging into three separate apps to piece it together at the end of each day.

What determines whether integration is possible

Not every platform offers an open API, and some require a business-tier account or partner agreement to access one — this is worth checking early, since it affects both feasibility and timeline. Where an API isn't available, some integrations are still possible through other means, but those tend to be less reliable and worth avoiding if a proper API route exists.
