From Metering to Savings: Turning Raw Data Into a Prioritised Action List

Installing meters is step one. Most of the value actually comes from what happens after — turning readings into a ranked list of what to fix.

Where a lot of metering projects stall

It's common for a site to install meters, get a working dashboard, and then... stop there. The data exists, but nobody has translated it into decisions, so the meters end up as an expensive number generator rather than a driver of actual savings.

What turning data into action actually involves

It starts with identifying the largest and most addressable consumption sources from the load data, not just the largest number in isolation — a big load that's already efficient and necessary isn't a target, while a smaller load running needlessly around the clock might be the better fix. Each identified issue is then paired with an estimated cost to fix and an estimated payback period, so the list can be prioritised by return, not just by size.

Why this needs to be a written, prioritised document

A verbal recommendation gets forgotten or deprioritised; a written report with a ranked list and payback estimates gives decision-makers something concrete to approve, budget for, and revisit later to check against actual results. This is the deliverable that turns a metering investment into a savings program, not just a monitoring exercise.
