Why compressed air is such an inefficient form of energy

Generating compressed air is inherently energy-intensive — a large share of the electricity going into a compressor is lost as heat rather than converted into usable pneumatic energy — which means every leak or inefficiency in a compressed air system represents wasted electricity at that same poor conversion rate, compounding the loss.

Why leaks go unnoticed for so long

Compressed air leaks are often inaudible over normal factory noise and invisible without specific detection equipment (typically ultrasonic leak detectors), which means a factory can run for years with a significant, ongoing leak rate that nobody has actually measured, quietly adding to the energy bill the whole time.

What monitoring actually catches

Monitoring compressor run time, output pressure and load against actual production demand can reveal both leak-driven waste (compressors running harder than production actually requires) and oversized or poorly sequenced compressor setups. This is one of the more commonly overlooked areas in an industrial energy audit, precisely because it's invisible without deliberate measurement.
