Real Time Streaming Protocol is how most professional IP cameras transmit their live video feed to an NVR, video management software, or another camera — it's the underlying transport mechanism, distinct from the video compression format (like H.264 or H.265) that determines the actual quality and file size.

Most professional cameras expose an RTSP stream URL that a compatible video management system can connect to directly, which is one of the foundational technical pieces that makes multi-vendor camera integration possible in the first place — a camera without RTSP or an equivalent standard export is much harder to bring into a unified system.
